Institute of Shanxi Functional Agriculture
Shanxi Functional Agricultural Products Inspection and Testing Center of Shanxi agricultural university was established after the reorganization of “The Institute for agricultural product quality, safety and testing technology, Shanxi academy of agricultural sciences” and Shanxi agricultural university's “Shanxi center for testing of functional agricultural products”, which began to operate independently in June 2020. The center is mainly engaged in agricultural product quality and safety testing technology. This includes quality evaluation, quality control,development of standards, agricultural product quality and safety risk assessment, guaranteeing technical measures, registration and safety evaluation of pesticide activity, biological and comprehensive control of crop diseases and insect pests, monitoring the quality and safety of agricultural products in Shanxi province, establishing and popularizing the production quality system of agricultural products in Shanxi province, and providing decision-making consultation for the quality and safety of agricultural products in Shanxi province.
The center is now comprised of the Laboratory of Quality and Safety Risk Assessment for Agro-products (Taiyuan) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the National Institution for Evaluation and Appraisal of Nutrition and Quality for Famous, Special, Excellent and New Agricultural Products, the National Institution for Evaluation, the National Science Base of Quality Safety and Nutrition Health for Agro-products and Chromatography-mass Spectrometry sharing laboratory of Shanxi academy of agricultural sciences. These research platforms are the registered pesticide residuetrialagency and insecticide field efficacytrialagency recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The center has obtained the qualification of the Chinese inspection body and laboratory mandatory approval (CMA) and the quality and Chinese agri-product testing laboratory (CATL). The center can provide technical services such as detection of agricultural and veterinary drug residues in agricultural products, pesticide registration residues and efficacy evaluation experiment, as well as National institution for Evaluation and Appraisal of Nutrition and Quality for Famous, Special, Excellent and New Agricultural Products quality approved evaluation and identification.
The center now has one director and one deputy director respectively and three functional management departments, including the administration office, the scientific research and social service office, and the financial assets section. The center has four professional technical research departments, the concluding division of quality inspection, the division of process control, the division of high-tech research, and the division of agricultural products quality. By the end of 2022, there were 24 researchers, including 6 professors and 4 associate professors, who belonged to the agricultural pharmacology, plant protection, microbiology, quality and safety of agricultural products, analytical chemistry, food science and soil agrochemistry disciplines. There were 6 researchers with doctor's degree and 9 researchers with masters, with backgrounds in pesticide science, agricultural insect and pest control and agricultural product safety. Additionally, there are a number of academic leaders of bio-pesticides and plant pathology, pesticide environmental chemistry and pesticide environmental toxicology.
The Shanxi Functional Agricultural Products Inspection and Testing Center covers an area of more than 3000 m2. It has greatpesticide residue analysis and microbiology equipment, including: time of flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS), Liquid Chromatograph-Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), gas chromatograph (GC),Ultra High Performance Liquid Chromatograph(UHPLC), Ultra performance convergence chromatography (UPC2), capillary electrophoresis chromatography (CEC), preparative chromatography system, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), rapid solvent extraction, multi-sample parallel concentrator, microbiologyBiosafety Level-2 Laboratory, polymerase chain reaction(PCR) instrument, fluorescence microscope,and gel imager.
